Trina Shumsonk
Owner of Atlas Yoga and Movement in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania
Two years ago, Trina Shumsonk opened a small yoga, barre, and massage therapy studio in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania. Since then, she's taken barre to a brewery, led yoga in the gardens of a historic estate, and built programming for everyone from toddlers to teenagers. Atlas Yoga and Movement is many things, but a typical studio isn't one of them.
Inside, Atlas covers a lot of ground — weekly yoga and barre classes, massage therapy, rotating pop-up classes, and community events that regularly spill out of the studio and into the neighborhood. Trina is a licensed massage therapist whose approach draws its own devoted regulars. For the youngest movers, Little Yoga Explorers gives little ones and their grownups a chance to breathe and stretch together.
"The laughs when something feels impossible but we discover we can do it," Trina wrote on the studio's second anniversary in April. "The deep breaths, the quiet support that fills the room, the choice to stay in child’s pose because we listen to what we need. That's what makes this place so special."
She says it the same way to newcomers as she does to regulars — come as you are. Tired, stressed, stiff, unsure. There's space for it all. And a $10,000 DreamSpring startup loan helped make sure that space could open its doors.
