David Sayers is a passionate community advocate and the proud owner of NaySayers Cafe, a mobile espresso and ice cream bar that specializes in decadent cups of affogato. A serial entrepreneur, David first discovered DreamSpring in 2018 when he got a small loan to finance equipment for one of his first businesses.

Learning about DreamSpring’s mission and culture resonated deeply with his own experience of growing up on the Navajo reservation in Bluff, Utah. He volunteered as a DreamSpring Client Experience Intern, then became a Community Loan Officer specializing in rural communities. Since that time, he has devoted his weekday working hours to other organizations that build economic justice and equity throughout the Southwest.

“A lot of my motivation is more targeted toward increasing access to capital for rural communities and Navajo communities, because there's just no equity that's able to be built on sovereign land. And I think that's a huge problem,” he says. “Entrepreneurship is a pathway out of poverty. I truly believe it in my soul.”

David has won awards for his community development work while launching several businesses over the years. Still, his retro-painted ice cream and coffee cart has been the dream percolating in his heart since he pulled his first espresso shot at the age of 17 in Gallup, New Mexico. Returning to DreamSpring to fund his most cherished project is a full-circle moment, in more ways than one.

“Even though my business demonstrated cash flow on Day One, it was just too high risk for most institutions,” he says, describing his experience sitting on the other side of the Loan Officer desk as a start-up entrepreneur. “I really appreciate that DreamSpring took a risk on me.” With accessible capital for inventory and debt consolidation, David is making his sweetest dreams come true.
