Meet María José Cortes
María José Cortes started Di Luna Candles in 2020 as a creative outlet during the pandemic. What began in her kitchen has grown into a successful small business with a boutique storefront and a loyal following.
María José is hands-on in every part of the business, including blending proprietary scents and running a Saturday market that connects the community to other creative entrepreneurs. With an eye toward sustainability and building up a repeat customer base, she evolved her business model to include a refill program, developed white-label bulk and custom orders for candles, and relocated to a larger boutique space that can accommodate regularly scheduled events.
In this Maker MasterMind, María José will talk about building her boutique candle brand, staying true to her creative vision and community, and adapting to new opportunities as they arise.
