Steven CW Taylor is a visual artist and the founder of Ubuntu Fine Art, the first Black-owned, single-artist fine art photography gallery in Philadelphia. Steven has been recognized as the 2023 Mural Arts Black Artist Fellow and Visual Journalist of the Year by the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists.
Steven’s work spans 18 countries and multiple U.S. national parks. His large-format, museum-quality prints invite stillness and reflection. Located just steps from where he was raised in Germantown, Steven’s one-of-a-kind Ubuntu Fine Art gallery derives its name from the Zulu philosophy describing interconnection. ("A person is a person through other persons.") This space is intentional in elevating Black artistry and inviting youth into the creative process — as well as wielding entrepreneurship as a tool of community stewardship.
Steven’s approach is also uniquely entrepreneurial. He owns every image he exhibits, curates every show on his terms, and has built a business model centered on education and access. As traditional gallery systems continue to prioritize exclusivity at the cost of community, Steven is imagining new ones.
Join us for a conversation on the intersection of fine art, entrepreneurship, and cultural impact, and what it means to build a gallery business around the very community that raised you.
